Election, Rejection, And Way Too Much To Mention. |

This week in the life of the UK we now face a new government structure. Whether we voted Tory, Labour, SNP, DUP, Liberal Democrats, etc. the post-result analysis is underway.

What fascinates me about the pre-election rhetoric and the post-election rhetoric is that they essentially the same message. They are joined by a simple idea. The idea of "being right". I watched politicians speak about their way being the best and the other candidates being the worst. These blood curdling moment's flashed in front of screens and into our psyche. This happened before the election and continues into the present.

What struck me is how on social-media, people openly slammed each other and what they believed was right. Sometimes it was peaceful and other times it was just shameful. Some of the stuff said was vile and showed a huge gap in human development.  This continues to happen now as it did before the election.

What fascinates me is this drive to be right. This drive to win. Elections seem like it's become gambling. Where we place our bets on which horse will win and celebrate (or mourn) when our horse comes in. I sometimes think we are so concerned about winning, we forget that we are in this whole thing together.

Yes, there are winners and losers in this process. It's a natural part of democracy. However, my issue comes in how we treat those who have lost or won. Do we continue to vilify them? Do we say their ideals and values for which they voted for are not valid? Do we suppress them to the bottom because we won?

This is a sickness in society. It's this ideal that we have to be right. We have to be right about economics, politics, etc and one of the most dangerous is that we have to be right about God. The latter I think is a terrible disease in the Christian body. We are soooooooo worried about being right that we have forgotten to be faithful. We have spoken about mystery with ownership instead of wonder. We have allowed God to create us in his image and then we returned the favour.
There is a sickness among us friends and like a cancer we need to get rid of it or face more division and dysfunction.
